Sr. Principal Software Engineer-Observability Platform
A little about us
Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. We’re proud to say that we’re the key to enterprise resilience for more than 11,000 enterprise organizations that use our Unified Security and Observability Platform to keep their systems secure and reliable. We’re also especially proud of our award-winning culture and our regular appearance on those “Best Places to Work” lists.
We are a company filled with people who are passionate about our product and seek to deliver the best experience for our customers and users. At Splunk, we’re committed to our strong sense of purpose to deliver "aha" moments for our customers with their data. We want to combine this customer value, with building great products, having fun, and importantly, delivering success as a team.
Splunk Observability Cloud is a new generation of SaaS-based metric and application performance management solutions built via microservices and distributed applications to help engineers deliver better, faster, and more reliable applications.
We're looking for a Sr. Principal Engineer to help lead a skilled team of engineers to build upon our data platform as we continue to innovate on application observability. In short, you will be the connector between the business strategy and the technical strategy, and have a direct impact on the success of Splunk in the coming decade.
If you end up joining us, we’ll only ask you one thing: bring your whole, authentic self, what we call your million data points. So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you. Because when you feel free to be you, it makes it a lot easier for us to be us.
Role
As a Sr. Principal Engineer focusing on our Observability Data Platform, you will
Drive system architecture and design decisions for Splunk’s Observability Platform, on which the core features and functionality of our software is built.
Partner deeply with technical leadership to drive the strategic projects within Splunk Observability Platform engineering.
Be active at a technical level, participating in design and code reviews and taking a hands-on role for strategically important, potentially risky technical initiatives required to achieve the success of the technical roadmap.
Demonstrate an ability to delegate, showing a strong understanding of when you must be involved in something versus when a specific task is a meaningful growth opportunity for other engineers.
Exhibit a growth mindset and provide mentorship and teaching for other engineers, helping them build the soft skills required to drive impact through influence as well as direct contribution.
Be an effective communicator who is regularly leveraged as the technical spokesperson for driving architectural ideas and decisions and advocating for them with business stakeholders.
Work well across multiple Product teams and be a strong contributor to setting product architecture and identifying efficiencies across products.
Work with Product Management, Engineering, and Architecture and help drive alignment on product direction.
