As a Manager of Sales Engineering for Splunk’s Security Business Unit, you will hire, motivate, and retain a team of world-class pre-sales engineers, who will in turn provide technical and thought leadership of Splunk’s Security focused solutions to the sales organization and to Splunk’s prospects and customers. Both you and your team will work directly with customers while acting as the subject matter expert across Splunk’s Security solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring that all team members are consistently delivering product demonstrations that directly address customer pain and emphasize Splunk’s unique value proposition. During the sales cycle, you and your team will guide prospects through trials and proof of concepts, demonstrating Splunk’s ability to meet and exceed customer requirements and building a positive relationship that will go beyond the initial transaction and make value contributions to our customers for years to come. Finally, you will have the opportunity to work directly with our Product Management, Engineering, Customer Success, and Marketing teams to share your knowledge and experiences to ultimately improve our business and our customers’ success.
Responsibilities
Proactively build and lead a team of high-performing Solution Architects, helping to ensure sales and customer success
Responsible for recruiting and hiring Solution Architects in your assigned region.
Mentor/coach new hires during on-boarding and subsequent phases to ensure effective ramping of skills and capabilities.
Engage directly with Pre-Sales and Sales Leadership to strategize on their opportunities and engage on pre-sales activities for Splunk’s solutions
Provide Solutions Architects with continual development feedback and annually collaborate with each individual on a career development plan
Actively drive and handle the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and advocate for our service
Answer technical questions from customers regarding Splunk’s Security products, features, and solutions, as well as articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users
Identify all technical issues of your assigned accounts to assure complete customer happiness through all stages of the sales process
Establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales-cycle with our customer's technical and executive staff
Demonstrate Splunk’s value to customers on site, remotely via webinar sessions, and at field events such as conferences and trade shows. Ensure that all team members can do the same
Ability to successfully coordinate multiple opportunities & POCs concurrently (across region)
Accountable for individual and team expense budget management
Must-have Qualifications
5+ years of Pre-Sales Solutions Architect leadership experience
3+ years’ experience in a people management role and skilled in developing and nurturing interpersonal relationships
Experience working in the Security market as a SOC leader and/or leading technical sales to that persona.
Proven track record of working and leading with cross functional leaders including Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Customer Success, Strategist and Advisor.
Experience selling and working with cloud-based and hybrid solutions
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure is preferred, and Solution Architect and Industry certifications are a bonus
Technically curious, and able to articulate the value that technology brings to solving customer business outcomes
Strong ability to inspire others and motivate them to act with a sense of urgency and empowerment
Proven executive communication skills – written and oral. Ability to communicate and lead complex ideas cross functionally across all levels both internally and externally
Ability to lead diverse groups of people, able to challenge and develop the team to exceed their goals both personally and professionally
Travel up to 30% of the time

For sales roles the ranges are expressed as On Target Earning or OTE (OTE = base + incentives in the form of sales incentive plans).
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
On Target Earnings: $242,000.00 - 332,750.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), New York (excludes NYC Metro Area), and all other states.
On Target Earnings: $232,000.00 - 319,000.00 per year
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the On Target Earnings (OTE) range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the OTE pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to OTE, this role may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
