What You’ll Do
You will collaborate with Quality engineers and leaders, development teams, other foundation teams and customers to understand and define Quality goals for the Observability product lines at Splun. This includes working with leadership to design and build cutting edge Quality focussed automation frameworks. Strong quality ethics, shift left mentality, collaborating closely with software engineers, designers, architects, and product managers is essential.
 
Day-to-Day Contributions:
As a Senior Principal Software Engineer in Test (P6), you will:
  • Lead at Scale: Operate as the primary technical architect and strategic driver for cross-functional projects spanning 12+ months, impacting multiple business units.
  • Innovate Solutions: Design and implement test strategies for highly complex distributed systems and contribute to the creation of pioneering technologies in data processing, search systems, and automation tools.Create comprehensive technical design documents and architecture diagrams taking into account business and technical requirements.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Guide and empower teams of engineers through technical mentorship and by establishing a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
  • Set the Vision: Drive the quality engineering roadmap, align it with organizational priorities, and champion scalable, secure, and operable solutions that meet long-term goals.
  • Be a Thought Leader: Represent Splunk as a technical authority in internal and external forums, contributing to open-source projects and driving industry conversations around quality engineering best practices.
  • Deliver Excellence: Ensure operational excellence through robust CI/CD pipelines, test automation strategies, and production-quality frameworks.
Requirements
  • Experience: 12+ years in software engineering or test engineering, including 3+ years in a staff/principal role, with a proven record of leading transformational projects.
  • Expert Coding Skills: Mastery in Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or similar languages, with the ability to rapidly adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Distributed Systems Expertise: In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, databases, and large-scale data pipelines, including experience with technologies like Kafka, Spark, or Kubernetes.
  • DevOps Mastery: Expertise in CI/CD systems, test automation frameworks, and operational tools that ensure reliability at scale.
  • Cloud and Security Knowledge: Proficiency in public cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deep understanding of security frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Observability tools: Extensive experience debugging complex distributed microservices based applications using Commercial or OpenSource tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, Datadog, Grafana etc. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry preferred.
  • Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to develop, communicate, and execute quality engineering roadmaps that align with company goals.
  • Technical passion: Passionate about and demonstrated ability to learn new and emerging technologies (e.g. Gen AI) quickly and how it can be used to solve real world problems.
  • Customer-Centric Focus: Track record of transforming customer needs into impactful quality solutions that enhance system performance and usability.

Note:

Base Pay Range

India

Base Pay: INR 7,200,000.00 - 9,900,000.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
