Role Summary
Are you enthusiastic about both user interfaces and data? Do you think design has the power to make the world better? Do you enjoy the challenge of helping users quickly and easily turn big data into valuable insights? If so, Splunk would love to hear from you!
We’re looking for an individual who is currently exploring designing for sophisticated users who need to perform complex, iterative analyses on data of widely varying types, and get quickly to insights. A designer who knows how to enable users to craft compelling visualizations, both individually and as part of dashboards and reports, that communicate these insights.
We’re also looking for someone who can communicate effectively, and collaborate closely with other designers, user researchers, developers, and product managers and has a passion for learning new things.
What you'll get to do
- Assist with building attractive, high quality UI/UX designs, of both low and high fidelity. Ability to execute visual design is a plus.
- Build visual design for pages across various web based products.
- Work as a team with staff members on interaction design/ help web production team to publish content.
Must-have Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related technical field, and strong record of academic achievement.
- At least one semester/quarter remaining to complete after the internship
- Available to work 40 hours a week for 12 weeks
Nice-to-have Qualifications
We’ve taken special care to separate the must-have qualifications from the nice-to-haves. “Nice-to-have” means just that: Nice. To. Have. So, don’t worry if you can’t check off every box. We’re not hiring a list of bullet points–we’re interested in the whole you.
- Communicating your ideas and concepts - both verbally and visually, through clear documentation
- Working within a visual design language and guideline to design thoughtful, well-crafted solutions
- Turning complex problems into simple solutions
- Testing and exploring different ideas at various fidelities of prototypes
- Working independently as well as within a team
- You have experience with working with any of the following: Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or Sketch
- We give preference to experience with crafting a web application: in a class, as a personal hobby, as a job, as part of an open source project. You have an interest in data visualization.
Our Splunktern Program allows incoming interns the flexibility to choose from three start dates, currently anticipated to be:
- Monday, May 19, 2025 - Friday, August 8, 2025
- Monday, June 2, 2025 - Friday, August 22, 2025
- Monday, June 16, 2025 - Friday, September 5, 2025

Base Pay
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay: $45 per hour
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay: $41 per hour
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay: $36 per hour
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills, year in school and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for benefits.
