Principal Software Engineer - Lakehouse Team

You will be a technical leader of Splunk’s Lakehouse team and work with other team members to deliver new query capabilities to the platform, extending Splunk’s capability to search and analyze data wherever it resides. If you possess a passion for outstanding technology leadership and embrace the challenge of working on highly scalable systems that handle large volumes of data, this position is for you.

In this role, you will:

  • Extend the Splunk platform to query new data lakes and provide further customer insights from their data
  • Write production-quality, high-performance distributed systems code
  • Build, test, operate, and maintain customer-critical query functionality
  • Have a growth mindset, constantly learning and adapting to new technologies
  • Empower your ideas by proof-of-concept prototypes
  • Design and implement new features
  • Analyze and optimize query performance
  • Engage in design and code reviews of the product, and improve your knowledge of customers’ experiences to prevent future problems.
  • Innovate and help drive the product roadmap
  • Be informed and creative – know about meaningful problems, devise new solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive a culture of continuous learning, while maintaining a high bar for quality and delivering for customers

Ideal Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge and proven track record in large scale data processing technology, including data transformation, indexing, query optimization and processing, delivering valuable outcomes using data.
  • Expert Java/Scala or C++ skills with distributed systems design and knowledge of OO and functional programming practices
  • Exceptional computer science fundamentals and data structure knowledge
  • Experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, or similar high volume data technologies
  • Ability to own product features end to end, from design and implementation to operations and continuous improvement
  • Able to implement software engineering and testing best practices in the team
  • Experience with Agile development, Continuous Integration, github, etc
  • Passion for solving hard problems and exploring new technologies
  • Excellent team player with good communication and documentation skills
  • Operational excellence: you think beyond feature delivery into how your code is serving customers in production.
  • Must have 8+ years as a backend engineer

Education

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent

Base Pay Range

Poland

Base Pay: PLN 325,600.00 - 447,700.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
