Network Security Engineer (US Remote Available)

Role:

Splunk seeks a Network Security Engineer to join the Corporate Network Engineering team. In this role, you will be pivotal in designing, constructing, securing, and managing Splunk's global corporate, development, and production infrastructure across our cloud and data center networks.
As a crucial team member, your main focus will be ensuring the availability, stability, and integrity of Splunk's network infrastructure services, specifically emphasizing network security and core services. You will contribute to developing scalable, secure network solutions by applying standardized reference architectures, authoring documents, defining lifecycle and operational support models, and implementing activities to deliver a robust and secure network platform.
You will have a solid foundation and experience in deploying and supporting various environments, including designing large enterprise security infrastructure, highly available firewall designs, policy orchestration, and management platforms. You will also support daily network infrastructure and services operations, including projects, network upgrades, maintenance activities, and on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain global network security infrastructure for corporate and cloud environments, including firewalls, DDOS mitigation, VPN, and remote access.
  • Collaborate with the Global Security team to continually improve the company's network security standards.
  • Participate in crafting cloud infrastructure security standards, including security configurations within public cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
  • Monitor network traffic for unusual activity and respond to security incidents.
  • Develop automated methods to remediate and mitigate network events, minimizing operational complexity.
  • Undertake complex, hands-on technical projects to establish and maintain a secure environment.
  • Implement and sustain network security infrastructure globally, including firewalls, DDOS mitigation, VPN, and remote access.
  • Design, build, and deploy solutions to safeguard the company and its customers against advanced threats.
  • Stay abreast of emerging information security threats, vulnerabilities, detection, and remediation to fortify network environments.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of network security engineering experience supporting large global multi-vendor enterprise infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable experience in building distributed security systems and highly available services.
  • Proficiency in network security concepts such as firewalls, network segmentation, proxies, and IPS/IDS.
  • Solid knowledge in routing and switching technologies and protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VTP, VRF, STP, VLAN, vPC, HSRP, VRRP, MPLS, QoS, GRE, IP SEC, DNS, TACACS, NTP, etc.
  • Knowledge of identity and access concepts and technologies to secure production and corporate access, such as SSO and SAML.
  • Lead implementation and configuration of security solutions, working with vendors and professional services as needed.
  • Review solution architecture and lead security solution implementations and associated configurations.
  • Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-facing production environment across multiple data centers, including public clouds.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks, including Panorama, is required.
  • Experience using network diagnosis and packet analysis tools.
  • Strong verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems with speed and efficiency.
  • Ability to self-motivate and manage/prioritize tasks.
  • Passion for customer service, attention to detail, and accuracy.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Note:

Base Pay Range

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

Base Pay Range: $133,600.00 - 183,700.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $120,240.00 - 165,330.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $106,880.00 - 146,960.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
