Role

At Splunk, we seek an engineering leader who champions customer-centric product development approaches to guide and expand our exceptional engineering team. A leader adept at translating business problems and requirements into concise, actionable tasks for technical teams, with a focus on tenacious prioritization, market insight, and empowering decision-making. Must be agile-savvy, resilient, and influential, deeply versed in epics, stories, and lean principles.

Responsibilities

A Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) Director leads a team of managers and engineers who work directly with clients to understand their complex challenges and implement tailored software solutions. Key responsibilities typically include:
  • Team Leadership and Development: Overseeing the recruitment, training, and professional growth of FDSE Managers and Individual Contributors, ensuring the team possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to meet client needs.
  • Project Management: Coordinating the end-to-end execution of high-impact projects, from initial client engagement through solution deployment, while managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder communications.
  • Client Engagement: Serving as the primary technical liaison between the client and the engineering team, ensuring a deep understanding of client requirements and delivering solutions that effectively address their challenges.
  • Solution Design and Implementation: Guiding the team in architecting and deploying customized software solutions that leverage data to solve critical problems across various industries, such as defense, healthcare, and finance.
  • Collaboration with Product Teams: Working closely with internal product development teams to provide insights from client engagements, influencing the product roadmap to better meet market demands.
  • Quality Assurance and Best Practices: Ensuring that all deployed solutions adhere to the highest standards of quality, security, and performance, while promoting best practices in software development and deployment.

Requirements

Recommended requirements for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) Director role:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proven experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and frameworks, such as Splunk.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and system design.
  • Hands-on experience with API development, App development or full-stack application development.

Professional Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a software engineering or technical consulting role.
  • 2+ years in a leadership or managerial position overseeing engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering technical solutions in client-facing roles.
  • Experience managing projects with agile methodologies and tools like Jira or Trello.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Exceptional team management and leadership abilities, with experience in talent development.
  • Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled in managing relationships and driving collaboration across teams and organizations.

Additional Requirements:

Note:

Base Pay Range

Poland

Base Pay: PLN 338,400.00 - 465,300.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
