It’s not every day that you meet someone like Latoya Sinclair. Her bubbly, positive personality is instantly infectious, even over a video call. She says that fun is her middle name, because “bringing harmony to work and creating enjoyable experiences is my jam. We have to balance work and enjoyment.”
When we say Splunkers are made of a million data points, we really mean it — and Latoya is proof. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, she now lives in Calgary, Canada with her husband and their daughter. She considers herself “a lover of life, human ethernet (because I love connecting dots), chaos coordinator, creative problem solver, community builder, and smile maker.” She volunteers at a senior home, loves to dance, mentors, and doesn’t swim, but loves being by the water. She also has a passion for people, and says that her purpose is to make connections and build experiences for those around her.
“I strive to balance productivity but also create an environment where we celebrate and maintain a lighthearted approach to daily challenges.”
Another data point to add to her list: Latoya is an EPIC Leadership Program Champion, an emotional intelligence program that introduces emotional intelligence tools to teams, leaders and individuals so they can find their own purpose and unpack their self- and social-awareness. “The program really allows me to step into my passion by supporting others to find their own purpose by unlocking and discovering their best self and how they engage with others,” she shares.
What really stands out is Latoya’s love of helping others around her. She’s had a fruitful career across various industries, including telecom, IT, events management, media and customer success — she even had a brief stint as a talk show host! But, throughout all of her career journeys, she has found that she always comes back to roles that allow her to impact employee experience. She has plenty of chances to let that shine as a Global Onboarding Program Manager within our Technical Enablement team. She’s been with Splunk for four years, plus another two years she spent as a contractor working with Splunk beforehand.
“When I see a team overcome challenges and achieve their goals more efficiently, it feels like I’ve made a difference.”
Her role is very cross-functional, and “the work can be quite diverse.” But that’s where Latoya thrives. She and her team build out onboarding and learning paths by role so that Splunkers can be in-the-know and prepared for everything our customers need. She says the way she sees it, “I get to partner and collaborate with some amazing people across different functions to tackle one of Splunk’s top initiatives: employee experience.”
The cool thing is that Latoya isn’t just driving the employee experience, but enabling Splunkers to create a more resilient digital world. By setting up our people for success, they in turn are better able to support our customers. For Latoya, the combination of making a meaningful impact, fostering growth in others, and achieving collective goals gives her work purpose and makes her feel fulfilled.“When I see a team overcome challenges and achieve their goals more efficiently, it feels like I’ve made a difference. Watching someone advance from the sidelines in their career and knowing I played a part in their development is deeply satisfying. Knowing my projects and initiatives contribute to the broader success of Splunk is motivating.”
It’s people like Latoya who bring our culture of kindness to life. Her passion for her work and those around her is helping us build a more resilient digital world, through the power of us.
