Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Test Drives Data-Driven Strategy with Splunk at Indianapolis 500

Splunk and Kinney Group Partner to Back Race Team with Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning on Track Conditions and Car Performance

SAN FRANCISCO and INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY – June 3, 2016 – Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLK), provider of the leading software platform for real-time Operational Intelligence, today announced that Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) partnered with Splunk during the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. Splunk, SPM and Splunk partner Kinney Group collaborated to analyze real-time operational data for all three SPM race cars.

“With the help of the Kinney Group and Splunk, we were able to gather data that is not readily available with our traditional systems. I am excited by the prospect of what analytics could do for racing in the near future,” said Sam Schmidt, Team Owner, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

“Kinney Group is honored to have had the opportunity to support Sam Schmidt and his team during the Indianapolis 500,” said Jim Kinney, President and CEO, Kinney Group. “We are continuously looking for creative ways to utilize the Splunk platform to harness the power of data analytics to give our customers an unfair advantage.”

“Congratulations to SPM on a great showing in the Indianapolis 500 and to our partners Arrow Electronics, the team’s lead sponsor, and Kinney Group,” said Doug Merritt, President and CEO, Splunk. “Working with SPM in this historic race is a testament to the flexibility of the Splunk platform. If data can potentially give an edge to an IndyCar, imagine what it can do for car fleets, manufacturing floors, oil rigs and other industrial and Internet of Things applications.”
