SAN FRANCISCO - November 12, 2013 - Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLK), provider of the leading software platform for real-time operational intelligence, announced the company will be participating today in a White House event, Data to Knowledge to Action: Building New Partnerships, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC. Splunk was selected to participate as part of the Obama Administration's call for technology leaders to help harness the power of data to advance national goals of economic growth, education, health, clean energy and regional innovation.
At the event, Christy Wilson, vice president of product operations, Splunk, will moderate a Big Data Innovation panel that will explore how the big data community can uncover new ways to address many challenges the nation faces today related to national and regional economic development, education, healthcare, energy, climate change and transportation. Panel participants will include Joris VanDam, translational sciences strategic project leader at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research and Dr. Eng Lim Goh, senior vice president and CTO of SGI.
"Government is making tangible progress on the big data goals set forth by the Obama Administration's big data research and development initiative, but we have only just begun," said Wilson. "Projects dedicated to reducing traffic congestion, improving healthcare costs and increasing energy efficiency in commercial buildings only scratch the surface. Splunk is honored to be part of this White House initiative because it strongly aligns with our own corporate vision of delivering operational intelligence through civic innovation at a national and local level."
Wilson will also speak to attendees about Splunk4Good, the social responsibility initiative at Splunk. The initiative has made great strides to innovate federal and local civic engagement using Regulations.gov, the centralized portal for all federal regulatory dockets, including proposed rules, and publicly submitted comments. The Splunk4Good team is analyzing Regulations.gov's large and complex data and creating a new, public interface that enables users to explore the federal regulatory data through real-time dashboards and visualizations. The end result will make millions of regulatory documents more accessible, searchable and usable to the general public.
